Social Media Director

About The Glorious Cause
The Glorious Cause is a historical strategy game centered on the American Revolution. We are seeking a creative and dependable Social Media Director to help share the game’s development, features, artwork, historical content, and behind-the-scenes progress with our growing community.
This is a paid, part-time contractor position with the opportunity to help shape the public voice and presentation of the project.
Primary Responsibilities
The Social Media Director will create, schedule, and publish content across the game’s social media platforms.
Weekly Short-Form Content
Create and publish approximately three to four posts per week across:
- X
- Threads
- TikTok
- Instagram
- Facebook Reels
- Bluesky
- Mastodon
These posts may include:
Five- to ten-second gameplay clips
- New feature highlights
- Development screenshots
- Artwork previews
- Historical facts related to the American Revolution
- Links to new articles, announcements, or development updates
- Community engagement posts, questions, and polls
- Content may be adapted for each platform rather than posted in exactly the same format everywhere.
Long-Form and Featured Content - -
Approximately one to two times per week, create a more detailed post for platforms such as Facebook and Reddit.
These posts may include:
- Thirty- to sixty-second gameplay videos
- Detailed development updates
- New feature demonstrations
- Historical articles or educational posts
- Developer commentary
- Major announcements and milestone updates
- Patreon and Steam Updates
Attend the project’s weekly developer meeting to remain informed about:
Recently completed features
- Features currently in development
- Gameplay improvements
- Art and animation progress
- Current development challenges
- Upcoming milestones
- Important community announcements
- Using information from the meeting, prepare and publish:
A weekly Patreon development update
A Steam Community or Steam News update when appropriate:
Communication Responsibilities
The Social Media Director will actively participate in the project’s Slack workspace and communicate with the Project Lead on a daily or every-other-day basis.
This communication should include:
- Respond to posts on the Steam Discussion Forum
- Content currently being prepared
- Posts that have been published or scheduled
- Materials needed from the development team
- Questions requiring approval
- Community feedback or important comments
- Any delays, technical problems, or concerns
Software Experience:
The contractor should maintain a simple content calendar so the Project Lead can review planned and completed posts.
Software and Tools
The project uses Postiz to schedule and distribute content across multiple social media platforms without requiring the contractor to log into every platform individually.
When needed, the project may also provide access to software such as:
- Adobe Creative Cloud
- Final Cut Pro
- Pixelmator Pro
- Other Apple Creator Studio applications
- Additional approved video, image, or social media tools
Professional experience with these applications is not required. Training and guidance can be provided.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Five to fifteen hours available each week
- Familiarity with social media platforms and short-form content
- Basic video-editing or image-editing experience
- Strong written communication skills
- Good spelling, grammar, and attention to detail
- The ability to follow project branding and communication guidelines
- The ability to meet weekly posting expectations
- Reliable internet access
- A computer or tablet capable of editing images and short videos
- The ability to attend a weekly remote development meeting - Saturday Late Afternoon
- The ability to communicate consistently through Slack
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- The ability to accept feedback and revise content when necessary
A modern desktop computer, laptop, Mac, or tablet may be used. Even a base-model iPad should be capable of completing many of the required tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
The following are considered strong advantages:
- An interest in the American Revolution or American history
- Familiarity with strategy games, historical games, or independent game development
- Experience using a Mac or iPad
- Experience with Final Cut Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, CapCut, or similar applications
- Experience managing Facebook, Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, Steam, or Patreon communities
- An understanding of how content should be adjusted for different platforms
- Experience creating short-form gameplay videos
- Basic familiarity with social media analytics
- Content Standards
All published material should:
Accurately represent the current state of the game
- Follow the project’s approved visual style and tone
- Use properly licensed music, images, fonts, and other assets
Contractor Relationship
This is an independent contractor position rather than a full-time employment position. The contractor will generally control how and when the work is completed, provided that agreed deadlines, meetings, communication requirements, and deliverables are met.
